Reparations Are A Form Of Slavery
Liberal leaders love to give people free, unearned money these days. One form of payment often discussed is reparations. According to Dictionary.com, “reparations are forms of compensation provided to those who have suffered wrongdoing or to their descendants. The term is especially used to refer to payments made (or proposed to be made) in the aftermath of war, slavery, or other forms of wide-scale systemic injustice.
The politically popular form of reparations in the current marketplace of horrible liberal ideas is payments to African-Americans who are descendants of slaves. For example, Virginia Governor Ralph Northam, famous for dressing like a KKK leader, recently penned legislation requiring many state universities to create programs benefitting descendants of slaves. Whether it is college scholarships or economic development programs, universities must provide tangible benefits to communities “with a demonstrated historical connection to slavery.”
Reparations are racist. You are favoring one race over another race. Moreover, why should reparations apply only to African-Americans? The Japanese were held against their will in internment camps during World War II. The Jewish Israelites were slaves in Egypt. The Uighurs are currently in “reeducation camps” performing slave labor in communist China. Additionally, according to WorldPopulationReview.com, 167 countries still have slavery, affecting about 46 million people.
While over a hundred countries still have slavery, six countries have significantly high numbers:
- India (18.4 million)
- China (3.4 million)
- Pakistan (2.1 million)
- Bangladesh (1.5 million)
- Uzbekistan (1.2 million)
- North Korea (1.1 million)
One could easily argue that modern-day slavery directly impacting living people should be addressed. After all, American slavery was abolished in 1865 following the Civil War. If we actually seek equity in the world, 2021 should not be paying for the sins of 1865. Instead, we should address the needs of those currently harmed by slavery.
Targeting the African-American community clearly isn’t grounded in actual fairness. It’s grounded in pandering. Leaders on The Left seek to obtain political loyalty from the African-American community. It is an enticement. If we give you something for free, we own you now. This ownership sounds very familiar. Ownership is slavery, now isn’t it?
